BEI Architects & Engineers, Inc. provided engineering services related to the replacement of domestic hot water heaters in the Science and Athletic Memorial Buildings at the Henry Ford Community College.

Our scope of work included surveying the existing heaters and installation and sizing the new gas-fired hot water heaters based on the current connected fixtures and usage. BEI incorporated the existing 830 gallon storage tank in the Athletic Building into our sizing criteria.

We identified alternates for heater selections based on the location (indoors and outdoors), the availability of natural gas, routing and termination of heater flue vents, the source and ducting of combustion air, routing and tie-ins to existing cold water, hot water and hot water recirculating piping and the possible need for induced-draft fans.

BEI evaluated and determined the source of electrical power to the heaters and any new pumps or induced draft fans. In addition, we developed drawings for the demolition of equipment and materials that were removed
